Our History

The Central Valley Clean Water Association (CVCWA) started in 1987 as the Central Valley Wastewater Managers Association (CVWMA). The members were predominantly wastewater collection and treatment agencies throughout the Central Valley with some consultants. Since its formation, the members had largely served as a group to share information on wastewater treatment issues.

As time passed, CVWMA members started to become more proactive in matters concerning wastewater collection and treatment agencies by providing comments on regulatory proceedings and sponsoring conferences. It became apparent that the group needed to change and take a more prominent and proactive role in regulatory proceedings that affect wastewater agencies.

In 2003, the group incorporated as a non-profit mutual benefit corporation, the Central Valley Clean Water Association (CVCWA), with the specific purpose of effectively representing the interests of wastewater organizations that are regulated by the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board.
